I’d been down the road of addiction once before and barely made it out alive. In my early 20s I was on methadone maintenance for eight years, and after getting off of that, I was clean for nine incredible years without a single relapse, until my husband and I started our family.
Building a family, and relapse I didn’t see coming
Throughout my 30s, we battled infertility and several losses, finally getting pregnant in 2016. From 2016 to 2018, I had two C-sections and two children, and terrible bouts with postpartum depression and anxiety each time. A doctor prescribed Vicodin for post-op pain, and that was all it took to pick back up the habits I’d long since erased.
Knowing I couldn’t go down this road again
It was a short-lived plummet, thank God. I knew I couldn’t go down this road again, and six months later, I started trying to get clean. But this time recovery had to be different. I had a demanding career and a young family to care for.
Finding a different kind of treatment
