Glucotrol

Valacyclovir, under the brand name Valtrex, is an antiviral drug that treats various herpetic infections, such as chickenpox, herpes zoster (shingles), cold sores, and genital herpes.

While it does not cure these infections, it helps shorten the duration of flare-ups by preventing viruses from producing more viral DNA. This halts viral reproduction and alleviates symptoms, although the virus can remain dormant in the body.

Dosage of Valacyclovir

Valacyclovir is available in tablet form. The usual dose is 500 to 1,000 mg, taken twice daily.

Common Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain

Cost of Valacyclovir

The price of generic Valtrex ranges from $16.00 to $86.00 for a bottle of 30 tablets, strength 1000 mg, with a coupon. To find the least expensive pharmacy near you that sells Valtrex and to download a coupon, click here.

Where to Get Valacyclovir

Valtrex is a prescription medication that requires a prescription from a physician or other licensed prescriber. Did you know? QuickMD can treat herpes infections remotely via telemedicine and prescribe valacyclovir online.
